Ouch...

Today I have had my Hepatitis B jab, the first of my MANY vaccinations for my stay at the orphanage in Vietnam, I have to go back for boosters in 1 month, 2 months and 12 months!! And next week I am booked in for the rest of my jabs, which are; Hepatitis A, Tetanus, Typhoid, Diphtheria, Polio and MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella). That's a lot, right?! Ouch... my poor arm!

Tree Hugger

I have been feeling a little disheartened due to a little knock back from Age UK Milton Keynes, who did not want my help. Last week I called to volunteer to help at the lunch clubs for the old folk and sort clothes in the charity shop for 3 weeks, but was told that I wasn't giving enough of my time and for the time it would take to train me and get my references, it wasn't worth it. I couldn't believe it... I only wanted to make tea, which I don't really need training on as I have been making tea for last 20 years! I then started to doubt the whole 'Rosetinted Project'.

However, today I pick myself up and got back on it, looking for other charities that are more than happy for me help.

I have put in an application to the Woodland Trust http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/ who aim to enable the creation of more native woods and places rich in trees; protect native woods, trees and their wildlife for the future and inspire everyone to enjoy and value woods and trees. I am volunteering as a photographer to help continue to build the photographic library, by taking and supplying images to be used in many different way to support the work of the trust.

I have also found a really useful site full of volunteering opportunities in the local area, http://www.volunteering.org.uk/ where you can search using postcode or the type of work you would like to be involved in, giving as little as 2 hours of your time.

I've also registered to help at the Oxjam, Oxfam's biggest ever music festival made up of hundreds of music festivals around the UK during October www.oxfam.org.uk/oxjam/

So I'm feeling a lot more positive after finding lots more opportunities out there and as for the old folk, I'll find some way to help out even if I just make my neighbour a cuppa!

Life Loves The Liver Of It

Today I received an email from my good friend Sarah, one of those group emails that you send to all the lovely girls in your address book with words of wisdom and inspiration which you have to send on to ten of your closes girlfriends in the next thirty seconds or (in this case) your knicker elastic will break. I never forward these emails on and I didn't, but I did really liked the inspirational quotes in this one.


The quotes were writen by Maya Angelou, who up until today I was embarassingly unaware of. After reading the quotes in the email I Googled her immediately and found out that she is celebrated for being a poet, memoirist, novelist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker and civil rights activist, with quite a history!


Here are some of my favourite quotes of hers;

Woburn Pound


On Sunday I took a little walk in to the Village to wander around the monthly farmer's market and on the way back I stopped to take a closer look at the bench just outside my house. It has a little plaque on it commemorating the Woburn Pound for stray animals. I have since Googled this but cannot find anything about a pound in Woburn. But there is a Heritage Centre in the village, housed in the Old Saint Mary's church, which is a museum of local history, so I might go and check it out next weekend and see if they know anything about the Woburn Stray Animal Pound.

Save the Bunnies...

Today I received a message in my Folksy account (I have a little online shop at Folksy, which is a website where you can buy handmade things and showcases talented makers and their craft) from a lady called Anna asking if I would be interested in listing my 'White Winter Bunny' on a new website being set up called http://www.thehandmadebunny.com/ an online shop selling handmade bunny items, it will be non-profit making with all monies going to the Rabbit Welfare Association. I replied saying I'm definitely in as I love bunnies, I get to show my work and the money will go to charity...Perfect!

So bookmark the page and I'm sure it will be up and running in no time!

Food & Travel...

Last night whilst searching the web for ideas for 100 must see places and things to do before you die, I stumbled across this fabulous looking book called 'Food Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 Extraordinary Places to Eat Around the Globe. It combines food and travel... Love it, great idea!

There are chapters on the worlds greatest markets and food bazzars, National dishes, street food, ultimate luxuries (once in a lifetime treats), the best wine and beer and a whole chapter dedicated to just desserts! Check it out at Amazon and take a look inside, the photography is really vibrant and inspiring.

Head in the clouds

We went on a mini roadtrip to Lincoln this hot weekend and on the long drive back I couldn't help but lose myself in the clouds, they filled the sky and I couldn't take my eyes off them. My mind wondered and I started thinking of all the amazing things I'm going to see and do when I'm out in Vietnam and what an amazing experience I'm going to have out there.

I couldn't help but to take a photo through the car window whilst we drove along, (very much inspired by the work of Linda McCartney when she shot 'Roadworks') to remind me of the day that the clouds sent me into a beautiful daydream.

Broken...

Broken toe and broken camera :-(

When I took my camera out my bag to shoot my photo of the day for my '365 day project' the display screen had smashed, very sad times. Then I broke my toe when getting up to see to my little cat's food demands in the early hours! Not a good day!

However, my lovely boyfriend has kindly offered to lend me his camera until I get mine fixed! Yay... snap happy again!

  5. Contact doctors to see what jabs I need for Hula and Vietnam and when I need to have them
  6. Buy Lonely Planet Guide to Vietnam
  7. Set up a Flickr account www.flickr.com so everyone can view my photos
  8. Fill out my 101 list on www.dayzeroproject.com , which is my list of 101 things I want to achieve in 1001 days
